OUT for Work is the only national nonprofit organization dedicated to educating, preparing, and empowering Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Ally College Students for the workplace.  Since 2005, Fortune 500 companies and LGBT advocacy groups have been recognizing our efforts connecting today with tomorrow’s LGBTA workforce.

This past September we organized the 4th Annual National Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Ally College Student Career Conference.  A few observations about the conference:

  • 356 participants registered for the conference
  • Over 30 panel discussions, presentations, and breakout sessions occurred throughout the weekend. View our 2008 Program Guide
  • Over 50% of the students were either juniors or seniors.  That is a real "sweet spot" when it comes to outreach and recruitment
  • 23 states, Washington DC, and Canada was represented.  Again, showing that OUT for Work has a national reach although the conference is held in Washington, DC.  That is strengthened by the fact that 52% of participants were from outside the DC, Maryland, and Virginia area
  • Being a Certified Diversity Practitioner by trade, diversity is always an important factor for me.  A participant commented, "The diversity present on the (Being OUT and open in the workplace) panel was great- age, gender, gender outside the binary, race, and ethnicity".  In addition, 43% of participants identified as "non Caucasian/white"
  • The conference overall received a score of 8.5 out of 10
